Welcome!

Welcome to my web design portfolio! I am Jacquelyn, a web designer in Ridgecrest, Ca, and this is a small example of designs I have accomplished. I am a freelance web designer specializing in W3C Standards and Accessibility guidelines. You can rest assured that all of my code will validate through the W3C validator, considered to be the starting point for cross-browser compatibility and enhancing accessibility! I can't wait to design or redesign a web site for you or your organization!

My strengths are valid XHTML/CSS, Photoshop, and browser compatibility issues. I frequently design a site in Photoshop and convert the PSD to valid code. I prefer to hand-code all of my designs. All of my projects render the same between all browsers, and anything I design or code for you will, also. I have a very strong work ethic and writing skills. I have strong customer service skills, as I have been employed as a food server most of my working life. I believe in teamwork and pleasing my customers/clients. I have previously taken many business courses; in fact, I am two business classes away from earning an Associate of Science Degree in Business Administration. Please Contact me for freelance, part-time, or full-time work.

You can count on me to create semantic, standards-compliant designs for you! You will never see a table-based layout done by me unless you specifically ask for it, and even then, I will probably explain to you why tables should not be used for layout and try to point you in the right direction. Accessibility is a subject very "near and dear" to me, as I have one close family member who resizes the text in his browser, and one who uses a screen-reader (JAWS, the worst one when it comes to reading tables).

This is a good thing! Using CSS instead of tables for web design decreases the load on the server (translating into lower costs for you), faster page loading for users (translating to less frustrated customers who give up and go somewhere else), and knowing your website is accessible to those with accessibility needs. In addition, redesigns in the future will be much simpler when implementing CSS instead of tables. Only one or a few files need to be updated, unlike with table-based layouts, where most styling is done in the HTML file and every single page needs to be redesigned!

I am hoping to add a section here soon for MySpace layouts and div overlays I have designed.I am also looking into starting a blog. I am constantly adding samples, so check back frequently to see what I've been up to!

I am currently a student of the Adademy of Media Arts Web Design Degree Program at Cerro Coso Community College here in Ridgecrest, CA. I have taken the "XHTML/CSS" course and the "Digital Imaging with Photoshop" courses. This past semester I took "Technical Communication", " Web Scripting with JavaScript", and "Interactivity and Interface Design with Flash". This spring sememster I am taking "PHP with MySQL", "Accessiblity and Usability", "Web Design with Dreamweaver", and "Design and Development for Mobile Devices".

I have to say, I am learning Dreamweaver this semester, and although every article I have read seems to frown on Dreamweaver or other WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editors because of bloated/extraneous code, I have found it interesting. I still much prefer to code by hand, but it is nice to learn a new way of doing things.

Here are some of my designs. Clicking on the image will take you to an example web page.
