Introduction

Ridgecrest was incorporated in 1963. We have a population of 27,000. Our major employment source is China Lake NWC and Naval Air Weapons Station (NAWS). Ridgecrest is located two hours or less from big cities in most directions. Ridgecrest is also located less than 150 miles from the highest and lowest points in the contiguous U.S., with Mt. Whitney at 14,495 feet elevation, and Badwater Basin, Death Valley, at 282 feet below sea level! We are surrounded by beautiful things to see and do, from mountain biking, off-roading, hiking, skiing, canoeing, sight-seeing, and tourism in general. Our nearby rural landscapes have been used in many films. Ridgecrest is considered the "Gateway to Death Valley". There are ghost towns, petroglyphs, unique rock formations and tufa towers. There is so much cultural history to this area that many people don't even know about! We boast beautiful sunny blue skies almost every day of the year, with mild temperatures in the winter and scorching hot summers. Our central location and small town values make Ridgecrest an excellent place to stay while you explore the wonderful things the area has to offer!
